Multiflex School Sports was originally started in 1989 by athletics coaches Tom Davies and Ron Newton. The original company name was T & R Sports Development. T & R Sports Development were given financial backing by ICI and later Astra Zeneca to deliver a sporting programme to Primary schools and High Schools to enthuse young children about sport.
This programme used high achievers in sport such as Great Britain international athletes and professional Basketball players to deliver a programme that not only developed fitness and skill levels of young children but increased their enjoyment of sport and gave them a route into sports clubs outside of the school environment.
Following the success of this programme Multiflex Sports was formed and went on to continue this sporting programme with local authorities and also Sports-hall athletics and Eveque sport and leisure.
In 2005 the government introduced P.P.A. (Planning, Preparation and Assessment) to all UK Primary Schools. This meant that all teachers would then be allocated 2 hours a week away from their class timetable to make use of their PPA time effectively. Coincidently 2 hours a week is also the amount of time each child should receive P.E. lessons for so Multiflex altered their business model to provide PPA cover for schools in and around Cheshire.
Mark Webb who is the Managing director of Multiflex realised there was an opportunity to provide high quality P.E. lessons in line with the National curriculum guidance on a weekly basis, whilst also providing support for schools and teachers through PPA cover.
Multiflex developed a P.E. scheme for Primary schools that covered 6 areas of sport in line with the curriculum. The areas are as follows:
Using qualified coaches for each area of the sporting curriculum Multiflex now delivers not just a coaching programme for primary schools but a teaching programme that has a proven track received since 2005.
Multiflex is still running this P.P.A sports cover programme today and continues to develop and improve using the years of experience of working with Primary Schools and young children.
Through providing PPA cover across Cheshire in a whole host of schools Multiflex also recognised the need for extra curricular sports to take place in schools, providing children with extra opportunities to develop physically, socially and emotionally through sport. We now work very closely with many of our partner schools to provide a broad and balanced after school club programme with various sports available to choose from through the academic year. These have been a great success with children finding a love and passion for sport whilst also supporting parents, in some cases, with a child care option.
Following on from our after school club programme success we have also branched out into ‘school holiday sports clubs’. We as a company pride ourselves on delivering exciting sports holiday provision in the safety and comfort of primary school settings allowing both children and parents to feel at ease throughout their time under our supervision. We believe this in turn allows the children to have the very best time possible and always wanting to come back for more.
